Drama of arrest and bail

I have been finding it difficult to write nowadays. I think the inspiration hasn’t been coming. I have been trying too hard not to concentrate on serious issues affecting our society but to settle for humour. However, this is difficult because most things I see have been making me not too happy.

It’s no longer news that three governors were arrested. One of them was actually playing hide and seek with the Economic and Financial crimes Commission (EFCC) until he got tired of hiding. I have been abstaining from commenting on the issue for two reasons. Firstly, I was waiting for the outcome of the drama. Secondly, I did not want to be negative because of my premonition that the whole arrest is a ruse.

The former governor of Oyo State, Alao Akala has been granted bail of N500m. Hours later, the former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel was also granted bail with almost the same bail condition. I have nothing against the decision of the court. My plight is that the accused can easily meet this bail conditions. Chief Olu Falae once said that the political elites have amassed so much wealth and they use the wealth to suppress the masses and they will have this edge over us for a long time.

For a long time to come we are going to witness lots of drama between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and ex- public office holders. But someday, the masses will rise against all the injustice the judicial and law enforcements agency won’t correct.
