What can make our Inspector General of Police (IGP) to resign?

Political and public office holders cling on to their position like their life depends on it. I don’t understand why we have individuals who are not up to the task manning sensitive positions. #Incompetent.

Recently a police boss in the UK resigned because a case of phone hacking occurred under his purview. No evidence suggests that he knew about it, but for such a thing to happen under his administration, he knew he wasn’t worthy of that position, so he resigned. An official of Manchester City football club also resigned because he sent an email which mocked the agent and mother of Nigerian Nedum Onuoha.

Our IGP promised hell for those who were responsible for the bombings that rocked the nation. The alleged perpetrators responded to his threat by blowing the heart of the nation’s security, the Nigeria Police Headquarters in Abuja. It was even said that the IGP would have been part of the casualties but for luck.

I think this is much of a reason for the IGP to resign if other competent people outside our nation can resign due to a far lesser incompetency and mal-administration.

English players hyped; English League (maybe) the best

The most viewed football competition in Nigeria is the English Premier League (EPL). An array of stars is lined up in most of the top English clubs due to the League attracting superstars all around the globe. For about a decade now an English club always gets to the final of the prestigious Champions League.

With the quality of this League it is expected that the English will boast of players of their own who are superstars. I have always believed most English football stars are just over hyped. So much noise was made about the cute David Beckham. I did not see him as a spectacular player. I believed he even got to be better when he joined Real-Madrid. I don’t see the John Terrys, Lampards, Ferdinands or any of their stars making big impact in other Leagues. The likes of Rooney are also just over hyped. No wonder the young and energetic Germans made mincemeat out of them in the world cup.

I don’t expect so much from the emerging over-hyped English young stars in Manchester United, Chelsea or Liverpool. Let’s not forget so much noise was made for Walcott too.

The English league may be the best but the English players can’t hold their own down.

MEND threatens to bomb Eagle Square

October 1, 2011.

THE Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has threatened to bomb Eagle Square in Abuja on 1st of October, 2011 as the nation commemorates it's 51st independence celebration.

In an e-mail statement by its spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, MEND warned people to stay away from Eagles Square, Abuja. According to them
Nigerians had nothing to celebrate 51 years after independence. The general public is advised to consider this warning and not rely on the assurance by our inept security agencies.
The funny joke which has gone round on facebook now becomes a stake reality; who do we obey, MEND or the Nigeria security agencies.

Action Film...This is not by MI.

If u think Boko Haram is the most dreaded sect in the country at present, you may be wrong. Boko Haram is known not to make so much noise, instead they attack first and then claim responsibility.
Another extremist group has also been attracting attention. They are called the Akhwat Akwop. They claim to be a christian extremist group formed to checkmate the activities of Boko Haram. They have also threatened to attack investments of nationals of countries having links with Boko Haram and supporting their activities.
I hope their threats stops on the pages of newspapers and pray that they don't take it far like their acclaimed muslim counterparts; Boko Haram.

Still on the Yaba market closure

I passed through the popular Yaba market and was amazed that the ever bubbling market is now a shadow of itself. I saw the traders waiting by the roadside, though still selling their wares. They were mostly looking dejected, waiting in anticipation for good news from the state government.
It is about a month now that the traders allegedly attacked KAI officials with a female KAI officer suffering a severe cut to her face in the ensuing saga. The action of the traders is totally unacceptable. Not for any reason should a citizen of a country attack government officials or anybody except self-defense.
I heard the stories of the traders too. The KAI officials have been extorting money from them on daily basis. Many a times, the KAI officials would seize their wares, never to be returned.
It is wrong for the traders to bribe government officials to either hawk or sell around places not approved. In the same vein, it is wrong for the KAI officials to encourage them by demanding bribes from them. This article also intends to draw the attention of Lagos state government to the uncultured men they recruit into the KAI as well as the LASTMA. LASTMA???  A story for another day.
I implore the state government to make a final and decisive action/statement regarding the market. It’s so sad seeing these able-bodied men who have decided not to delve into vices to just sit around without hope of the future. Our elders used to say, ‘an idle mind is the devil workshop’.

Your roadside mechanic may be smarter and brilliant than you…

I have always held onto the believe that no one is dull. The roles our tutors play in the classroom have a big impact on how our little scholars turn up. If teachers should endeavor to know their pupils thoroughly, they will bring out so much good from within them. I never “completely” liked the idea of spanking of children in the classroom because it makes them withdrawn and not to express themselves. But also, we cannot spare the rod and spoil the child. You will be surprised that if you create a good relationship with children you’ll appreciate the keen memory they possess. Building on this ability will shape how brilliant they turn out to be.

Mediocre tutors and the dilapidated educational sector have churned out half backed graduates and have also constituted to a large extent, the number of drop-outs we have around. An encounter with some of these drop outs and even those with little education made me realize some are even as smart as any guy who has a white-collar job.
The yellow (aka: baba ijebu) kiosk has interested me for some time now. The guy I asked about it said it’s the easiest way to make money. I was curious and starting asking him how. He told me what I stand to win anytime if I play with any amount and certain numbers I predict. In fact I became confused because I never thought he could do such complex calculation without by heart within a few seconds.
Baba-Ijebu addicts performing complex mathematical/statistical calculations. Of course, no calculators please!

Eliciting interest go a long way in motivating the brain towards knowing more. So for those of you, who think the usual craftsman or technician isn’t as smart as you, better have a rethink. You are just opportuned to be in that position because he might perform better in that position.

GEJ isn’t a lion but he acted it for a few minutes

The criticism against the sit-down-look (pronounced: siddon-look) approach by the presidency is finally getting to the president. Little wonder he had to speak back at those criticizing his approach on Sunday 25th of June 2011 at an inter-denominational service to mark Nigeria’s 51st independence anniversary. He was angry even though anger is almost not visible in the president’s passionless life. For once, I saw a tough president who would take the bull by the horn and illicit fear and loyalty from his subordinates. My hope was cut short when he said we shouldn’t expect such in his governance.
I implore you all to loosen your seat belt and accept the ‘go-slow’ or is it ‘hold-up approach to governance. And if you don’t know, world leaders such as Obama commend him for a job well done even if you the suffering masses don’t.
