What can make our Inspector General of Police (IGP) to resign?

Political and public office holders cling on to their position like their life depends on it. I don’t understand why we have individuals who are not up to the task manning sensitive positions. #Incompetent.

Recently a police boss in the UK resigned because a case of phone hacking occurred under his purview. No evidence suggests that he knew about it, but for such a thing to happen under his administration, he knew he wasn’t worthy of that position, so he resigned. An official of Manchester City football club also resigned because he sent an email which mocked the agent and mother of Nigerian Nedum Onuoha.

Our IGP promised hell for those who were responsible for the bombings that rocked the nation. The alleged perpetrators responded to his threat by blowing the heart of the nation’s security, the Nigeria Police Headquarters in Abuja. It was even said that the IGP would have been part of the casualties but for luck.

I think this is much of a reason for the IGP to resign if other competent people outside our nation can resign due to a far lesser incompetency and mal-administration.

English players hyped; English League (maybe) the best

The most viewed football competition in Nigeria is the English Premier League (EPL). An array of stars is lined up in most of the top English clubs due to the League attracting superstars all around the globe. For about a decade now an English club always gets to the final of the prestigious Champions League.

With the quality of this League it is expected that the English will boast of players of their own who are superstars. I have always believed most English football stars are just over hyped. So much noise was made about the cute David Beckham. I did not see him as a spectacular player. I believed he even got to be better when he joined Real-Madrid. I don’t see the John Terrys, Lampards, Ferdinands or any of their stars making big impact in other Leagues. The likes of Rooney are also just over hyped. No wonder the young and energetic Germans made mincemeat out of them in the world cup.

I don’t expect so much from the emerging over-hyped English young stars in Manchester United, Chelsea or Liverpool. Let’s not forget so much noise was made for Walcott too.

The English league may be the best but the English players can’t hold their own down.

MEND threatens to bomb Eagle Square

October 1, 2011.

THE Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has threatened to bomb Eagle Square in Abuja on 1st of October, 2011 as the nation commemorates it's 51st independence celebration.

In an e-mail statement by its spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, MEND warned people to stay away from Eagles Square, Abuja. According to them
Nigerians had nothing to celebrate 51 years after independence. The general public is advised to consider this warning and not rely on the assurance by our inept security agencies.
The funny joke which has gone round on facebook now becomes a stake reality; who do we obey, MEND or the Nigeria security agencies.

Action Film...This is not by MI.

If u think Boko Haram is the most dreaded sect in the country at present, you may be wrong. Boko Haram is known not to make so much noise, instead they attack first and then claim responsibility.
Another extremist group has also been attracting attention. They are called the Akhwat Akwop. They claim to be a christian extremist group formed to checkmate the activities of Boko Haram. They have also threatened to attack investments of nationals of countries having links with Boko Haram and supporting their activities.
I hope their threats stops on the pages of newspapers and pray that they don't take it far like their acclaimed muslim counterparts; Boko Haram.

Still on the Yaba market closure

I passed through the popular Yaba market and was amazed that the ever bubbling market is now a shadow of itself. I saw the traders waiting by the roadside, though still selling their wares. They were mostly looking dejected, waiting in anticipation for good news from the state government.
It is about a month now that the traders allegedly attacked KAI officials with a female KAI officer suffering a severe cut to her face in the ensuing saga. The action of the traders is totally unacceptable. Not for any reason should a citizen of a country attack government officials or anybody except self-defense.
I heard the stories of the traders too. The KAI officials have been extorting money from them on daily basis. Many a times, the KAI officials would seize their wares, never to be returned.
It is wrong for the traders to bribe government officials to either hawk or sell around places not approved. In the same vein, it is wrong for the KAI officials to encourage them by demanding bribes from them. This article also intends to draw the attention of Lagos state government to the uncultured men they recruit into the KAI as well as the LASTMA. LASTMA???  A story for another day.
I implore the state government to make a final and decisive action/statement regarding the market. It’s so sad seeing these able-bodied men who have decided not to delve into vices to just sit around without hope of the future. Our elders used to say, ‘an idle mind is the devil workshop’.

Your roadside mechanic may be smarter and brilliant than you…

I have always held onto the believe that no one is dull. The roles our tutors play in the classroom have a big impact on how our little scholars turn up. If teachers should endeavor to know their pupils thoroughly, they will bring out so much good from within them. I never “completely” liked the idea of spanking of children in the classroom because it makes them withdrawn and not to express themselves. But also, we cannot spare the rod and spoil the child. You will be surprised that if you create a good relationship with children you’ll appreciate the keen memory they possess. Building on this ability will shape how brilliant they turn out to be.

Mediocre tutors and the dilapidated educational sector have churned out half backed graduates and have also constituted to a large extent, the number of drop-outs we have around. An encounter with some of these drop outs and even those with little education made me realize some are even as smart as any guy who has a white-collar job.
The yellow (aka: baba ijebu) kiosk has interested me for some time now. The guy I asked about it said it’s the easiest way to make money. I was curious and starting asking him how. He told me what I stand to win anytime if I play with any amount and certain numbers I predict. In fact I became confused because I never thought he could do such complex calculation without by heart within a few seconds.
Baba-Ijebu addicts performing complex mathematical/statistical calculations. Of course, no calculators please!

Eliciting interest go a long way in motivating the brain towards knowing more. So for those of you, who think the usual craftsman or technician isn’t as smart as you, better have a rethink. You are just opportuned to be in that position because he might perform better in that position.

GEJ isn’t a lion but he acted it for a few minutes

The criticism against the sit-down-look (pronounced: siddon-look) approach by the presidency is finally getting to the president. Little wonder he had to speak back at those criticizing his approach on Sunday 25th of June 2011 at an inter-denominational service to mark Nigeria’s 51st independence anniversary. He was angry even though anger is almost not visible in the president’s passionless life. For once, I saw a tough president who would take the bull by the horn and illicit fear and loyalty from his subordinates. My hope was cut short when he said we shouldn’t expect such in his governance.
I implore you all to loosen your seat belt and accept the ‘go-slow’ or is it ‘hold-up approach to governance. And if you don’t know, world leaders such as Obama commend him for a job well done even if you the suffering masses don’t.

For the single ladies out there

If you are a lady above thirty and not yet married, please do not click here. Some bitter truths. You know truth hurts.

Beggars or muggers?

I have never been contented with what the Lagos state government is doing. I have always said it to whoever wants to hear that we can get much more from governance.
When the state government decided to pick on beggars, I was wary about it, thereafter, I was against it when I realized some of them were been deported to their states of origin. I don’t believe a citizen of our country needs a visa to enter any part of the country, nor can anyone be banned or deported from any state.
Until recently I had nothing against the beggars. I was taking a walk to recharge my phone when I met this average age lady with two kids begging for alms. I had just enough to recharge my phone and despite that, I have come to recognize her to come to that particular spot often. A fortunate day, I will call it because I got to see another part of them. I was alone on the street at that time of the day with the lady and her kids on the other side of the road begging me for money. As I walked by without responding, I never knew I had committed an offence. She rained curses on me for not giving her alms. Haba! Na by force! Till date, I haven’t come across her again.
Before this incident I had one with another set of elderly women. Three of them approached me for money. They said they came to visit someone and they did not know they will spend so much on transport and they did not meet who they came to visit thus they were stuck. I gave them some money which I thought should be enough to take them back home according to where they told me they were coming from. You won’t believe I met these women again somewhere else about two to three hours later not en-route their destination but still begging for alms.
I have heard different stories of these so called beggars. Imagine a well-dressed guy approaches you for transport fare because he lost his wallet and you meet the same guy at the same spot the next day still begging and telling same story.
I can’t help but sit down to do the calculation. If a person with soft heart gives such person N200 and he gets an average of N200 from ten people a day. That is N2,000! N2,000 for a week and month is more than N 50,000 naira! That’s far more than the minimum wage. Tell me how such person will want to get a regular job or engage in any craft. Begging is sure a full time job.
I am not writing this to dissuade you from giving alms, just want each and every one of us should think before giving out

I had to share this video. It’s an inspiration for me anyday.

i have never gotten tired watching this clip and i always feel extremely lucky. not just lucky but i renew my promise not to forget where i am coming from.....

Losing our moral values (watch the ABSU rape video here)

It’s so sad reading about the ABSU rape video, where five men gang-raped a girl. The publicity and attention that condemns the dastardly act is commendable. In a long while, Nigerians have stood up unanimously to condemn something bad. How could a reasonable man decide to rape a girl just to pay her back for an offence? I am sure these guys did this not for pleasure but to hurt the girl. Till date I haven’t seen the video and I don’t think I will ever will.
I don’t understand why anyone will sit to watch a video of rape for more than an hour. A lot of people must have done this, some to help in the investigation while others just for the fun of it. For anyone to have watched this not for the purpose of helping in the identifying or investigation shows such person is in support of such act. In fact such a person can also partake in such.
If some of us would try to step out of our life of isolation and decide to interact fully with the normal people in the streets we will discover that so many atrocities does happen and no one is doing anything about it. Ladies are raped and molested, children are raped, people are murdered and it doesn’t get this publicity.
For those who have watched this video just for the fun of it, you are as guilty as those five guys who raped that girl. God help us all for we are all guilty of supporting so many immoralities consciously or unconsciously in our society.

Ashewo Supporter

It’s another weekend of footballing action...Barcelona, Real Madrid or whatever won’t stop us from liking the English premiership more. I hope i wont Torres( the new slang for miss) those interesting matches while trying to finish this.
I keep asking myself which of the football clubs i support. I started supporting Gunners abi na loosers when they stopped winning trophies. I had to leave them because I no wan die young.
Some years back i supported Inter-Milan when our short Obafemi Martins was on fire. They failed to win the champions league on getting to the final losing to AC-Milan.
The only football club i supported that won was Barcelona when they won Arsenal to clinch the Champions League trophy .Abeg, no laugh o, it was the night of the final i became a supporter. At least i have a trophy compared to the die-hard arsenal or Chelsea fan.
I would not trade stick to a team that fails to win. Whenever a team is becoming so dominant i stop liking them and switch the rival of such team. It has happened many times with Barcelona and Real-Madrid. At present i wish Real-Madrid could outclass Barca with five goals which i know is not possible because those boys dey vex
I followed arsenal last season till Messi treated them mercilessly. I switched to Chelsea but Torres disappointed me. The UCL final, i just couldn’t stand the manner Barca treated Madrid so i supported Man-U...gbam! I lost again..
I will keep consoling myself; after all i follow the winning team. Don’t ask me which team

Memoirs of a Play Boy

My first girlfriend was so pretty. I was so young then, if i had told people about her they would know i was so lucky. The truth is if i had told them about her, they would laugh at me. I never asked her out! But in my 'yeye' mind, she was my girlfriend. Sad that I can’t even remember her name again.
I had so many others girlfriends like her. Infact, I had to break up with one because I caught her cheating on me. I actually did not tell her it was over because I never asked her out in the first place.
Till date, I wish I could have her back, but it still hurts. How could she do such a thing to me?

'Omo, i no sabi toast at all'. If not for my dad, my present girlfriend won’t be in my life. Please, I wont talk about that now or never.
'It’s all fair in love and war', they say. This isn’t fair. Imagine my close friend even dated my girl. My friends told me to ask her out then. I bluntly told them she isn’t my type.Nonetheless, I won’t lie, the girl is beautiful and I liked her.
They persisted but I told them I wasn’t interested. It took me about a month to build up liver (jonathan even get liver pass me) and before I could, my close friend was already going out with her. He said I was 'dulling' and he couldn’t let the girl fall into the hands of another guy.
It took me some time before I could ask them girls out. Chei! Man suffer well. It was like I was the ugliest thing. The answer was always a big 'NO'.
After so many trials, I started getting "i will think about it" for an answer. I never eventually got a ‘yes’ from those girls who said 'they would think about it'. I wish I had a mentor back then to tell me ‘I will think about it’ means a ‘yes’.

This beautiful ordinary day while pressurizing this particular girl who has been 'thinking about it', I asked her again and she smiled. I left for home that day. I really did not feel a thing for the girl. I was just experimenting on my wooing potency. When I got home, I was about sleeping before I realized that her ‘smile’ and the ‘I will think about it’ could actually be a ‘yes’. And that was history. Now I know what a ‘yes’ looks and sounds like.

Years later, after overcoming the ‘yes’ barrier I wanted to step up my game.I succeeded in bringing the girl indoors. I have been bringing a lot of them in but I was like the 'proverbial dog on the page of a magazine that can’t bite'.So with this thought flooding my head and peer pressure influence, I decided to take it to the next level.
We were inside talking and suddenly I can’t flow with the conversation anymore -the wicked thoughts in my head. It was obvious the girl knew what was on my mind...

The Yoruba leader...

The late icon Obafemi Awolowo is being appreciated more after his death. He alongside Moshood Kashimawo Abiola are being regarded as the president Nigeria never had.
They left so many legacies which people do point to which I haven’t seen or maybe I never bothered to. I am sure during their time they had critics who still picked holes in what they claim to do best.
People like the Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka. The late Gani Fawehinmi have always been in the for-front of criticizing every political office holder or elite politician.
In my opinion, the likes of Festus Keyamo have only used the struggle to get noticed and get contracts.
All the aforementioned are not the topic of discussion for today but the popular Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu. I remember vividly the issue of Chicago. The late Gani Fawehinmi dared Asiwaju to come out with his international passport to prove he really schooled in Chicago the time he claimed to.
I remember Gani Fawehinmi coming on a TV station saying Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi came prostrating that he should let the case be. Though fans and party followers won’t agree with these but i am happy a media house made reference to this (234next Thursday 23/09/2011).

Recently Asiwaju is been tried for having several foreign accounts while serving as the governor something which he hasn’t denied.. All he had to say was that they should prove if he used state fund to open or fund it.
The average unbiased man knows that the charges against him are that he had those accounts. Using it for syphoning money or using state fund to open it isn’t the issue. it is clear that no political office older should operate a foreign account while serving and Asiwaju went against this.
It makes no sense when we say this is a political persecution. If truly he has done something wrong then he should face the music. A fan of his said i just happen to be part of the 1percent that isn’t seeing things right. i agree if i am part of the little that see the right thing than being in the multitude of the blind.
I don’t expect the ardent followers of ACN to listen to reasoning on this issue and i know a lot of people are sure behind him.
My prayer is that the judiciary does its job; i hope the anti-corruption agency brings forth more evidence and i hope the government doesn’t settle this politically or out of court.
If Asiwaju should suddenly become a billionaire just after governing for eight years and he is the leader of ACN i refuse to be a follower of such party. ACN is gaining ground in the southwest doesn’t make him the Yoruba leader

Digital age; growing farther apart

The world is now a global village where and when information and communication is at the finger tip. A click of a button can get you all the information you require. Communication with anyone across the globe now is seamless. With so many people embracing the social networking sites, it’s like the best is yet to come. Friends are made within seconds and problems are shared with different people giving advice to people they hardly know. Imagine me getting to know much of my roommate online.
It’s also not strange for people making comments or uploading pictures of what they are not. I have also been following this trend for some time and i think i have also been swept away by the excitement.
A friend recently made known his fear of people sharing their problems with total strangers online and shutting out their family who are close to them physically. This can be dangerous. The online networking sites seek for our personal information which can be easily accessed by anyone around the world.
Different kinds of phone applications are also in vogue. Some with real time updates of our location directly to our online networking sites. It makes us to be easily tracked by friends or foe.
A friend of mine recently used an application that lets him see information of any callers to his mobile line even if it’s a strange number. Unknowingly to him, the application copies all the phone book contacts from his own phone and other phone contacts of users of the application to an online database. This explains how peoples information is gotten by the application.

The social networking sites, the internet and all are supposed to bring people together. it’s now easy to sit in the comfort of your room and get all information you desire, get connected to whomever you want, do your official work, get married, adopt a kid, go to church and even order for food.
i did a few of  the things listed above thinking i was getting so many people into my lives...recently i discovered i wasn’t part of the world. Yeah, i do watch TV, listen to radio and get the latest news in the world but i am not part of the world

So tomorrow, i am going to put on my drinking shoe and cap and go catch some fun...its weekend

A SILENT REVOLUTION (Politics, Governance or Service)

The average Nigerian will agree with me when i say politics is a dirty game. Its not strange to see people adopting the style 'do or die affair’ by past president (Olusegun Obasanjo) in politics. We'll come to wonder if truly these people really want to serve us or serve themselves.
Political office holders are always begging for our votes after a term in office without achievements. Their arguments are usually centered on the time frame has been too small. We wish they had said this before we voted them the first time. I find it appalling when people rejoice and sing praises of these politicians when they reluctantly deliver a little fraction of what they ought to do while in office. It’s embarrassing when  people who have no achievement in any field push us around because they've made name in politics and made more money from governance.
Why can’t technocrats man important ministries, parastatals and other sensitive positions in this country?
The nations problem looks like what these present league of politicians cannot handle..
I have pondered and asked myself many times. Is this the best we can get from our leaders? Can someone tell me these are the best brains we have? Isn’t it crazy when we say corruption can't totally be wiped out?
Until each one of us starts seeing politics and governance as a means of contributing to the society. Until politics is made unattractive to those people who have intention of getting rich while occupying political positions. This can be done by slashing cost of governance. It’s simple saying it but what’s so difficult about reducing allowance and salaries of our leaders by more than 70percent. We know they cant do this either
I don’t expect our present leaders to make any significant contribution to better the lives of the people.. It’s up to you and I.
A SILENT REVOLUTION which doesn’t require guns, placards or demonstration..
