Landlord Tenant palava

For a long time to come the issue of house rent in Lagos will continue to raise eyebrows. Landlords have been charging exorbitant fees for rents and due to the congestion in lagos, so many people have no choice but to squeeze out his money from whatever means to secure even not-too-good an accommodation..
The Lagos state government in order to reduce the plight of the people or rather to pass a message of being in the forefront for fighting for the poor passed a bill banning the two years rent paid by new tenants in Lagos. Just as expected, lagosians were jubilant and happy and others wonder if it was possible for the government to dictate to Landlords how they should manage their property. Fines and jail terms are for offenders who go against the new bill.
I would have thought the Lagos state Government would build Low-Cost Housing Estates to supplement and bring down prices of rents. I know for sure the State Government was and is aware the bill will have no effect on anything.
Maybe it is time the government addressed the issue of housing in the states or try to enforce the law.
