Digital age; growing farther apart

The world is now a global village where and when information and communication is at the finger tip. A click of a button can get you all the information you require. Communication with anyone across the globe now is seamless. With so many people embracing the social networking sites, it’s like the best is yet to come. Friends are made within seconds and problems are shared with different people giving advice to people they hardly know. Imagine me getting to know much of my roommate online.
It’s also not strange for people making comments or uploading pictures of what they are not. I have also been following this trend for some time and i think i have also been swept away by the excitement.
A friend recently made known his fear of people sharing their problems with total strangers online and shutting out their family who are close to them physically. This can be dangerous. The online networking sites seek for our personal information which can be easily accessed by anyone around the world.
Different kinds of phone applications are also in vogue. Some with real time updates of our location directly to our online networking sites. It makes us to be easily tracked by friends or foe.
A friend of mine recently used an application that lets him see information of any callers to his mobile line even if it’s a strange number. Unknowingly to him, the application copies all the phone book contacts from his own phone and other phone contacts of users of the application to an online database. This explains how peoples information is gotten by the application.

The social networking sites, the internet and all are supposed to bring people together. it’s now easy to sit in the comfort of your room and get all information you desire, get connected to whomever you want, do your official work, get married, adopt a kid, go to church and even order for food.
i did a few of  the things listed above thinking i was getting so many people into my lives...recently i discovered i wasn’t part of the world. Yeah, i do watch TV, listen to radio and get the latest news in the world but i am not part of the world

So tomorrow, i am going to put on my drinking shoe and cap and go catch some fun...its weekend
